Inaugural Gallery Show: Altered State
Friday is a big day for Primary Colours. First, we celebrate our inaugural show at the Primary Gallery located in the Murphy Arts Center, second floor, Suite 217 (map).
Altered State features four established artists--Susanna Hoone,
Corey Jefferson, Bryan Moore, and MaryAnne Nguyen--with very distinct styles while maintaining a challenging and gritty aesthetic in execution, concept, and technique.
Opening Night coincides with First Friday, June 3. The folks at Fountain Square Brewing Company will provide the beverages for opening night.
We'll also host a closing reception on Friday, June 10 from 6-9 p.m. Work available for viewing by appointment through June 18 at primarygallery@gmail.com.
Poster Children
That same Friday night, NUVO is honoring Primary Colours with a 2011 Cultural Vision Award at a big Gala at the Athenaeum.
We'll be celebrating this award with some of the true visionaries who helped establish Primary Colours: namely, Jeff Martin, Fred Shields, Dane Sauer, Robert Evans III, Larry Endicott, and Janine Betsey to name a few.
We're on the cover of this week's NUVO. How cool is that? Here's the story by David Hoppe.
Thanks to board members, volunteers, donors, partners, artists, and event goers. You help make this community cool and vibrant.
Develop Yourself Professionally
prodev-series Primary Colours has enjoyed seven summers of great collaboration with the Arts Council of Indianapolis. This year's Professional Development Series takes place at the Wheeler Arts Community in Fountain Square (map), and all sessions take place from 6-8 p.m.
- Wed., June 22: Writing an Effective Grant (for artists or small arts organizations)
- Wed., June 29: Writing an Effective Artist Statement
- Wed., July 13: Entertainment Law for Visual and Performing Artists
There's no need to RSVP as the Wheeler has plenty of room for all. Please direct questions to Shannon Linker at slinker@indyarts.org. You can find more information at the Arts Council's page or on our ProDev page.
Congratulations to Jeremy Pittsford, a visual communications major from Ivy Tech, who won this year's poster design contest.
State of the Arts
Last month, we conducted two enlightening Artist Roundtables with local artists to help assess the current state of the visual arts in Indianapolis. Thanks to those who gave us their unvarnished opinions, and thanks to Keep Indianapolis Beautiful for providing the venue and Bazbeaux for the pizza.
You can contribute your thoughts as well!
Artists, take a few moments to provide us with some crucial feedback on the current local art scene. Your honest opinions will help us provide better opportunities to help emerging artists in the City. The survey concludes June 17.
