Primary Colours/Primary Gallery is proud to present the work of local artist, Martin Kuntz.

The Fun Machine Died is a body of work that includes several large scale canvases made up of colorful oils and acrylic that display various deconstructed icons of pop culture. Martin Kuntz derives meaning from a society filled with over-stimulated imagery and explores these images within the subconscious. Issues explored range from gender roles and masculinity to violence, wealth and death.

Opening reception takes place June 1, 2012 (6-10pm) at the Primary Gallery, located on the second floor the Murphy Arts Center, suite 217. The closing reception occurs June 22, 2012 (6-9pm). For questions or viewing appointments after June 1, please email info@primarycolours.org or call (317) 721-2780.

The Arts Council of Indianapolis and Primary Colours collaborate each year to offer a series of professional development workshops for central Indiana artists. Past topics have included accounting, legal matters, portfolio development, photographing your own artwork, technology issues for artists, writing your artist statement, grant writing for artists and more. For this, our eighth year, we are leaving the summer months to drinks on patios and long weekends at the lake and starting our workshop series early this year. Stay tuned for topics, presenters and more details on spring and fall workshops coming soon.
Upcoming Workshops:
March 21: The Supplemental Materials Seminar
April 11: Handling, Packing and Shipping Artwork
April 25: How to Become a Teaching Artist

First in our spring series:

March 21: The Supplemental Materials Seminar

When submitting to any professional opportunity, your supplemental materials such as work samples, reviews and other print material can be just as important as the project or grant itself. In order to be taken seriously by a panel of professionals selecting grants or commissions, your supplemental materials must be professional and top notch. Come to this workshop to see examples of good and bad submissions. Learn what panels are looking for and what turns them off right away. If you plan on submitting for a grant, residency or gallery show this year, this workshop is a must do.

When: Wednesday, March 21, 6-7pm
Where: Arts Council of Indianapolis

Just in time for the Superbowl, we at Primary Colours are proud to present another wonderful show at the Primary Gallery.

Scienceology is an collaborative show exhibiting the works of Jeff Geesa and Ryan Szeszycki.

What is Scienceology?
Through a representational approach to abstraction (thoroughly abstract concepts made visible) Scienceology explores the nature of understanding, of “knowledge”, and the attempt thereof. Scienceology is the exploration of science and pseudo-science and is not Science proper. It is a holistic, however fragmented and incomplete, picture created in equal parts by pieces of knowledge and unimaginably vast areas of ignorance, like particles clustering into the infinitely dense as space expands moving the clusters farther and farther apart. At a certain level of complexity understanding fails and we are left with simplicity, beauty. Occasionally Culture, Science, and the Brain get a fleeting glimpse of the true nature of things. Simple, beautiful.

Hours/Location

Opening reception is on February 3, 2012 (6-10pm) at The Primary Gallery located within the Murphy Arts Center, second floor, suite 217. Closing reception will occur on February 17, 2012 (6-9pm).

This year, we will be accepting donations of new and gently used art supplies on behalf of VSA Indiana.
In case you missed it, Justin Cooper’s opening reception was a hit amongst October First Friday visitors at the Primary Gallery. A great crowd and several pieces sold. Not to mention, we had a marathon game of Hungry Hungry Hippos playing away inside the Primary Colours board room.
We look forward to seeing some familiar faces as well as new ones!
