Installation Nation
June 4-5
Primary Colours seeks contemporary artists with experience in creating installation art for a unique exhibition in June.
Project Outline
Artists will submit a proposal to create an installation piece within the confines of a 20-foot metal shipping container. From the submitted proposals, Primary Colours will select seven projects and give artists each $750 to create his or her vision. Proposals are available here or from the Primary Colours Web site (primarycolours.org) and are due on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 5 p.m. EDT.
Artists may conceive and develop a piece free from any thematic or creative restrictions, and multiple artists may collaborate on a piece. The dimensions allotted for each piece are width: 8 feet, depth: 20 feet, height: 8 feet. Electricity will be available to power each selected installation piece. Selected artists must be available to set their installation up in Indianapolis during the week of the event, beginning Monday, May 31, 2010.
Pieces will highlight Installation Nation, a weekend exhibition taking place on Friday, June 4, and Saturday, June 5, 2010. The event will also feature music, food, and drink.

Professional Development Series
Summer
A series of free workshops coordinated with the Arts Council of Indianapolis and designed specifically for the emerging career artist. Participants can learn from industry experts on diverse subject such as how to deal with taxes, basic business practices, and copyright issues. They have also learned how to photograph better slides for submissions, compose crisp artist statements for shows, and write effective grant proposals.
Art vs. Art
September
Infamous from coast-to-coast, it’s Art vs. Art. This truly unique art competition featuring side-by-side face-offs between same-day created paintings. Artist compete head-to-head for one huge cash prize, and you judge. The winner is determined by audience vote; the loser faces the “Wheel of Death” unless someone’s generous purchase can save the painting from a ruinous fate. Some art will die. Save the art.
TOYS
December
Our invitational exhibition of toy-inspired work. Join us for this festive one-piece show that has become a holiday favorite. TOYS exhibits art fashioned around the theme of toys. Artists are free to interpret the theme as they see fit.
At our last TOYS show, we partnered with Second Helpings to collect 144 pounds of dry pasta. Check out pictures from the show here.
